DERBYSHIRE WEDDING FILMSShottle Hall.
Your day, naturally.
Three Shottle Hall weddings we can show you. Plenty more experience behind them.
We’ve now filmed at Shottle Hall around six times, so we know the venue, how the day flows and some of the best places to disappear for a few photographs and bits of film without keeping you away from your guests.
Here are three of the weddings we’ve filmed there.
Sophie & Connor
Sophie & Connor had originally planned to get married outside, but the Derbyshire weather had other ideas.
After a very wet morning, their ceremony was moved into the Coach House before everyone headed through to the Orangery for the wedding breakfast and speeches.
And the rain definitely didn't ruin anything.
The sun eventually appeared later in the afternoon, giving us time to head outside for their couple shots before an evening that included smoke bombs, a packed dance floor and a brilliant firework display.
Matt & Ella
Matt & Ella spent the whole morning at Shottle Hall, with hair and makeup happening across two of the bedrooms before Ella got into her dress.
Having two separate rooms worked really well. There was plenty of space for everyone to get ready without the morning feeling overcrowded, and from our point of view there was loads of natural light to work with.
Their ceremony took place in the Coach House, followed by their wedding breakfast and speeches in the Orangery before everyone headed across to the Wedding Barn for the evening.
James & Georgia
Georgia & James managed to get the outdoor ceremony.
With the gardens and countryside behind them, it gives the ceremony a completely different feel to getting married inside the Hall or Coach House.
This film is a little different from the others on this page too.
You're not only watching their Highlight Film. You're watching Georgia & James seeing it for the very first time.
And their reactions probably explain why we bang on so much about having your wedding filmed.
FROM OUR TIME BEHIND THE CAMERASFilming at Shottle Hall
-
Shottle Hall is a Derbyshire country house wedding venue with the Hall itself, the Coach House, gardens and the newer Wedding Barn all within the same estate.
One of the things we really like about filming here is that everything is close together.
There's enough space that different parts of the day still feel separate, but you're never spending ages moving from one end of a huge estate to another.
From prep through to the ceremony, drinks reception, wedding breakfast and evening, the whole day flows really nicely.
-
Morning prep is particularly nice to film here.
There's plenty of natural light in the bedrooms and enough space for hair, makeup, bridesmaids, photographers and the two of us without everyone constantly falling over each other.
We've seen a couple of different ways of doing it.
Sophie got most of her hair and makeup done at an Airbnb before coming across to Shottle Hall to finish getting ready and put her dress on.
Matt & Ella did the whole morning at Shottle, using two neighbouring rooms so hair could happen in one and makeup in the other.
That worked brilliantly and kept everything feeling calm and spacious.
-
We've filmed both Sophie & Connor and Matt & Ella getting married in the Coach House.
It's a smaller and more intimate ceremony room, with exposed beams and plenty of character.
From a filming point of view, we have to be a little more deliberate about where we position ourselves because there isn't endless space to move around once everyone is seated.
That's where having two of us and multiple cameras helps.
We can have cameras positioned at the front before the ceremony starts, capture the entrance and reactions from different angles, then quietly move where needed once everyone has settled.
Sophie & Connor's ceremony actually ended up here at the last minute after their planned outdoor ceremony was rained off, so we've also seen first-hand how Shottle can adapt when the British weather decides not to cooperate!
-
Georgia & James had their ceremony outside in the gardens, and it gives you a completely different option.
There's much more room around us to position cameras without getting anywhere near the guests, and you've got the surrounding Derbyshire countryside as the backdrop.
Obviously an outdoor ceremony always comes down to the weather, but when it works, it's a really lovely place to get married.
-
The Orangery is where we've spent plenty of time filming wedding breakfasts and speeches at Shottle Hall.
It's bright, has large windows and plenty of natural light, which always helps when you're filming reactions around the tables.
Because there are two of us filming the speeches, we'll normally have cameras covering whoever is speaking as well as the two of you and the reactions happening around the room.
Some of the best moments during speeches aren't actually the speech itself.
They're normally somebody trying not to cry, absolutely losing it laughing or looking across the room at someone they love.
-
You don't need to disappear for an hour to get some nice footage at Shottle.
There's the front of the Hall itself, which works really well for confetti and group shots, along with the gardens and quieter areas around the grounds.
There's also a more tucked-away area through the trees and greenery that we've used for relaxed portraits, as well as the large tree and bench further through the grounds.
They're all close enough that we can head out with you and your photographer for 10 or 20 minutes, get what we need and send you straight back to your wedding.
That's much more our style.
-
The Wedding Barn is the newest part of Shottle Hall and gives the venue a much larger, more modern space.
We've filmed evening celebrations in the Barn, including first dances and the start of the party, although we haven't yet filmed a ceremony or wedding breakfast in there.
It's a big change of atmosphere from the Hall and Coach House and works really well once the evening gets going.
And because everything is still on the same estate, guests can move across without the day suddenly feeling disjointed.
-
We've probably experienced both sides of Shottle Hall now.
Georgia & James were able to have their outdoor ceremony.
Sophie & Connor woke up to a very wet wedding morning and had to move theirs inside.
But what stood out to us was how little difference it made to the actual wedding.
The day carried on, everyone had a brilliant time, the team adjusted the plans and later in the afternoon the rain disappeared completely.
We were outside getting couple shots, using smoke bombs and eventually filming their firework display.
It's a good example of why we always tell couples not to spend the week before their wedding obsessively refreshing the weather app.
-
The Shottle team have always been brilliant with us.
They're organised, accommodating and easy to work alongside, which might sound like a small thing, but it makes a huge difference behind the scenes.
A well-run venue gives us more time to concentrate on what we're actually there to do rather than chasing timings or trying to work out what's happening next.
Every wedding we've filmed here has flowed really well.
-
Having now filmed at Shottle Hall around six times, it's a venue we know well.
We've filmed outdoor ceremonies, Coach House ceremonies, morning preparations, wedding breakfasts and speeches in the Orangery, evenings in the Wedding Barn, sunshine, heavy rain, fireworks and plenty in between.
We know the layout.
We know where we can get some lovely couple shots without taking you away for ages.
And we know how to work around the venue while letting your wedding still feel like your wedding.
We're Aaron & Becky, the husband-and-wife team behind One Two One Wedding Films.
Both of us film every wedding in a relaxed, documentary-led way. We don't want to turn your day into a production or have you constantly thinking about the cameras.
We'd much rather let you enjoy your wedding while we quietly capture it.
If you're getting married at Shottle Hall and that sounds like what you're looking for, we'd love to hear what you've got planned.
YOUR PEOPLE. YOUR DAY. YOUR STORY.
Let’s have a chat.
Tell us a little about the two of you, your date and your venue.
We’d love to hear what you have planned.
